Top Officials from Broward County and the City of Lauderhill Join G.L. Redevelopment in Groundbreaking Ceremony for Renaissance - New Affordable Housing Community Friday, August 10, 2007 Friday, August 10, 2007
LAUDERHILL, FL – Sunrise-based G.L. Homes and affiliate, G.L. Redevelopment, hosted a special groundbreaking ceremony at 10:00 am today for Renaissance of Lauderhill. This new community brings 26 affordable, yet upscale, single-family homes for first-time homebuyers who once thought homeownership unattainable. The reality of homeownership at Renaissance was made possible by a partnership between G.L. Homes, the City of Lauderhill and the Housing Finance Authority of Broward County.
The Housing Finance Authority of Broward County provided the land for the project and, together with the City of Lauderhill, marketed the homes to eligible buyers. More than 1,000 people expressed interest. On April 13, 2007 a lottery was held by the City to choose some of the lucky homeowners. Down payment assistance is being made available from funds provided by the Housing Finance Authority and the City of Lauderhill.
Speaking about the significance of Renaissance to the community at the groundbreaking ceremony were: Itchko Ezratti, President of G.L. Homes and G.L. Redevelopment, Alan Fant, Senior Vice President of G.L. Homes and G.L. Redevelopment, Broward County Mayor Josephus Eggelletion Jr., Lauderhill Mayor Richard Kaplan and Broward County Housing Finance Authority Board Member David Esposito. Lauderhill Commissioners Margaret Bates and Howard Berger and many of the new Renaissance homeowners and guests also attended the event.
“Renaissance is affordable, but will include much of the ‘pop and pizzazz’ that G..L. Homes is known for” said Mayor Eggelletion.
The community will include 26 Mediterranean-style, one-story single-family homes ranging in size from 1,642 to 1,922 a/c square feet. All homes will have an enclosed two-car garage, a minimum of three bedrooms, two bathrooms, separate living and dining rooms, covered paver patios and entrance porticos with brick pavers. Homes have been marketed with fixed sales prices ranging from $158,500 to $176,500.
Renaissance is located in Central Lauderhill, west of the Turnpike with 10 lots on NW 1st Court and 16 lots on NW 25th Street and NW 25th Court.
Construction is expected to begin by September 1.
