GL Homes says it had a big weekend at the opening of The Bridges, a 622-home luxury community near Delray Beach. Buyers signed contracts for 44 homes totaling more than $30 million, Division President Marcie DePlaza said. DePlaza said the Sunrise-based builder was thrilled with the response, especially considering that models don’t open for a few months. GL didn’t allow buyers to camp out overnight, but there were 30 cars in line at 6 a.m. Saturday. Homebuilding remains sluggish across most of the country, but some areas and builders are doing well, analysts say. Since the start of 2012, GL has buyer commitments for more than 200 homes in South Florida and on the state’s west coast, DePlaza said.
