Hours before sunrise, Adopt-A-Family, Feeding South Florida and GL Homes cooked nonstop to make grab-and-go breakfasts for the working parents and children at Adopt-A-Family (AAF) in Lake Worth.

Feeding South Florida Director of Culinary Services Susan Taves showed GL Homes’ Sarah Alsofrom and AAF’s Layren Calvo and Matt Constantine how to cook hot scrambled egg burritos with melted cheese and avocado in warm tortilla wraps on an outdoor griddle. These breakfast burritos along with hot coffee, OJ, fresh fruit and pastries were served to 150 AAF families on their way to school and work.

Many thanks to WPTV Channel 5 and WFLX Channel 29 reporter T.A. Walker and photojournalist Elvis Griffiths who highlighted AAF’s support for these hardworking families through T.A.’s Shining a Light segments live on the NBC and Fox TV stations.

Adopt-A-Family’s mission is to strengthen families with children in their efforts to achieve stability and self-sufficiency by providing access to all-encompassing services. Since 1983, Adopt-A-Family has grown into the largest service provider for homeless and low-income households in Palm Beach County — providing access to services to over 56,000 local families.
AAF serves families with children experiencing homelessness or who are at-risk of homelessness.
